Epping Cricket Club Lost Seven Wickets

Match report Epping's batsmen faltered as they played their first fixture against Harlow for five years. With the team still not at full strength, a god start to the innings was required but Mickey Taylor (making his ECC debut) and Dan Sly perished to some good bowling on an uneven track in the early overs.
Skipper Geoff Maynard (22) and vice Si Oliver (25) steadied the ship with a 50 partnership but they went in quick succession the writing was on the wall.
The only resistance came from Epping Aussie Si Weightman playing his very last game for the club before departing home to Melbourne in June.
He was smiting the bowlers to all parts as he waltzed his way to 37. A departing 50 seemed a certainty before a stunning caught and bowled from India one-day player Jacob Martin caused his departure.
Epping were then skittled out for 135 - a total at least 70 short on an improving pitch.
Every Epping bowler strove valiantly and 3 early wickets from Weightman gave us a sniff.
Tim Adams and Weightman both bowled excellently against Indian supremo Martin but he did not give a chance. Without ever being able to cut loose he made his way to a match-winning 71 not out.
Epping took heart from a valiant bowling and fielding effort and waved a sad goodbye after the game to the man known as Weightsy, he will be sadly missed.
