Epping Cricket Club Saturday 2nd v Billericay on Sat 28 Apr 2007 at 1pm
Epping Cricket Club Lost
Match report
Our first game of the 2007 season got underway after a few nervous moments wondering if we would have enough players to form a team, with players withdrawing at the last moments it was like Dunkirk all over again.
Anyway we managed to get a team out in the end even though it meant darkening the doorstep of Steve Hyde ( talking of Dunkirk and the war).
We lost the toss and were put into bat, where we continued to make a hash of things and struggled to 134 all out including a fine innings from young William Beavers who hit the ball to all parts of the ground for a fine 56.
After tea Billericay went out to bat and we thought that they would knock the runs off in no time however this was not the case and they took 38 overs to reach the required total.Young Beavers continued his fine form by taking two wickets and a catch, backed up by John "earthquake boy" Sanger who survived the early morning tremors in deepest Kent to chip in with figures of 9 overs for 21 runs. But we could not prevent the inevitable and we were finally put out of our misery.
Mind you the old stalwart Steve Hyde must have enjoyed himself because he even returned for a post match drink afterwards and despite severe threats to all and sundry to never darken his doorstep or place of work again I think we haven't seen the last of the "Ping" at Lower Bury Lane this season.
The game did end on a sad note when we found out that one of our late call ups Adam Taylor ended up in hospital with a broken collar bone which will keep him off work for about six weeks, get well soon Adam.
