Match report Epping lost out by the narrowest of margins against Harold Wood and in so doing slipped to their fourth straight Essex Sunday League defeat. Opting to take first use of a cracked, worn and uneven pitch the home batsmen were soon up against it and after 13 overs were teetering on a precarious 30-3. A sizzling partnership of 45 in only 7 overs between Geoff Maynard and Dan Sly suddenly made batting look easy but a needless run out sparked a familiar middle-order collapse. At 99-8 all seemed lost but some bold hitting by Billy Holden helped lift us to 121-9 from our 40 overs.

The Harold Wood pursuit seemed to be going swimmingly enough with Nadim Sohail in full flow at the top of the order but good spells from Jon Everett (2-31) and Simon Oliver (4-28), supported by some reliable outfield catching, suddenly swung the game our way. The visitors slumped to 111-9, with Dan Taylor, John Sanger and Billy Holden all picking up a wicket apiece, and a famous Epping victory seemed on the cards, only for numbers 10 and 11 to scramble the final few required runs.

Harold Wood took the full 18 points and Epping a paltry 4 - scant reward for a spirited second-half fightback.
