ONGAR won the local spoils with a hard-fought victory at Lower Bury Lane.
The visitors had been out of the game after 30 overs of Epping's innings with the home side on a resounding 125 for 0 with Dan Sly and Dan Twitchett playing superbly.
Sly registered 53 after a 3-week absence through injury and 15-year-old Twitchett played a knock way ahead of his years to register his first 50 for the first team scoring 66.
But when both went playing tired shots in sweltering heat, Epping's commanding position declined.
Graham Hancock was caught for 14 and big-hitting Dan Sibley was adjudged LBW for just 4.
Simon Lycett was then run out for 11 and Dave Bickley went for a duck, to leave Epping struggling to reach 200.
They just about did so thanks to a sound knock of 12 from Si Oliver and good hitting from young pups Terry Preston (19no) and Dan Taylor (8no).
Ongar had toiled valiantly in the field with Maguire (2 for 61) and Selmer (4 for 63) the pick of the attack.
Epping knew they should have scored 240 and that proved to be decisive.
Despite Dave Bickley removing opener Mick Ayres for 2, Ongar skipper Steve Reynolds (18) and Dave Coles (35) laid the foundations for the assault.
Tim Adams (4 for 61) bowled both to give Epping a sniff of victory with Ongar 76-3 but a superb knock from Aussie Maguire (55) and Hetherington (49no) won the game for the visitors.
A cool and composed knock from Clark (27no) deservedly saw Ongar over the finishing line.
