Epping Cricket Club Sunday XI v Cockfosters on Sun 25 Apr 2010 at 2pm
Epping Cricket Club Lost by 58 runs
Match report
The Sunday XI took to the field for the first time this season against a very able Cockfosters team. Stand-in skipper G. Preston lost the toss and was put into the field. Epping started very brightly with a lively opening spell from Sam Rashid claiming an early wicket for The 'Ping, ably partnered from the other end by 'Tiger' Tim Batchelor, who put the batsman under significant pressure with few loose balls. Majid Rashid followed his father from the pavillion end and struck a good rhythm after a difficult start as the Cocfosters innings gathered momentum. Dan Sly entered the fray and picked up a haul of 3 wickets in his spell, supported from the othe end by Graham Preston and Charlie Barton who both picked up well deserved wickets and did well to stem the flow of Cockfosters runs in the second half of the innings. With 190 on the board, it was always going to be a difficult chase for The 'Ping.
Tea was it's usually superb affair provided by Mrs Newman, while Mr Newman was saving lives at the London marathon.
Epping began their chase strongly with some excellent strokeplay from Dan Sly before an untimely wicket and a comfortable 52 for Dan Twitchett. Sam Rashid contributed well with some flashing strikes before departing. The middle order struggled to establish themselves against a very accurate bowling attack who never gave much away, forcing some big shots from the middle order that ultimately cost a few wickets in return. The tail end showed some resistance but never seriously threatened to make a genuine assault on the Cockfosters total as their bowlers did a good job of keeping the pressure on the batsman, which ultimately told, with the Cockfosters attack cleaning up the tail.
