Match report Sat May 21
Essex League Division 2
Epping 123 tied with Woodford Green 123

THE SPOILS were literally shared as local rivals Epping and Woodford Green managed to contrive an amazing tie in an unbelievable game.
Visitors Green were cruising to a deserved victory on 108 for 4, needing just 16 more to win and with Epping's fielding performance turning into a farce.
Green skipper Dave Weekes profited from a horrendous caught and bowled drop and saw another easy chance fall to earth between two fielders.
He looked to be smashing his side to victory, quickly reaching 35, with the steadying company of Ali at the other end.
Then the chaos started. Weekes smashed a Jon Everett long hop to Dave Westall at short cover and then his brother was bowled for a golden duck.
Tim Adams then got in on the act, having Bob Newman caught behind for a duck.
Green were suddenly 115 for 7 and the game hung in the balance.
Everett trapped Mark Squibb LBW for a duck and it was 116 for 8.
Epping then took the key wicket of Ali, caught in the deep off Adams for a patient 24 as the pressure began to tell.
Green's last pair were at the crease with the score on 119 for 9 with five still needed for victory.
Tony Hussey scampered a couple of singles and partner Jalil also grabbed a run as the tension reached unbearable proportions.
Adams was then called for a wide and the scores were level.
Needing just that one run to win, Hussey was bowled by Adams to complete an unbelievable tie after more than 5 hours of cricket.
The end was treated like a victory by the home side who had been all but dead and buried 30 minutes before.
The Epping heroes were their two bowlers used - Adams with 4 for 54 and Everett with 5 for 66.
Earlier in the day Epping had been asked to bat first on a very testing damp track.
Green skipper Dave Weekes (5 for 39) and Tony Hussey (1 for 29) put the ball in the correct areas and let the wicket do the rest.
Weekes' brilliant effort was well backed up by Jaleel (4 for 47) who made inroads in the Epping middle order a recovery effort from Dave Westall with a well-hit 38 and Graham Hancock, 19.
A late flurry from Adams, 16, and Mashy Weerakoon, 11, gave the Epping total of 123 some degree of respectability.
Epping will now travel to Leigh-on-Sea this Saturday in better heart after their never-say-die attitude saw them rest a tie from the jaws of defeat.
