Epping Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets

Match report Essex League Division 2
Epping 208 lost to West Essex 210-5 by 5 wickets

West Essex secured a deserved victory against Epping thanks to a quality performance from the Nazir brothers.
Skipper Z I Nazir led the way with a brilliant bowling performance that put his side in the box seat.
He bowled 22 excellent overs, only conceding 44 runs and deserving more than the 2 wickets he did take.
But his excellent off stump line on a pitch with a tiny offside boundary strangled the Epping batsmen and created the pressure for wickets to fall at the other end.
Epping had started well with a solid opening partnership between Mickey Taylor (30) and Dan Sly (15) but Alam nipped out Taylor and Sly was caught behind off Vowles.
The Epping middle order subsided somewhat with only Simon Lycett (13) offering support to number 5 Graham Hancock.
Hanock played the anchor role in making 48 and resurrecting Epping from the depths of 100-6.
Late order hitting from Dave Bickley (28) and Pat Haslam (28) gave Epping's 208 total some respectability but it was still at least 30 runs short of a commanding total on a good pitch.
West Essex started positively with both Ahmad and Tariq hitting aggressively to the short boundary.
Epping were given hope when Tariq misjudged a drive and was caught at mid on for 25 and Ahmad unluckily played on to Everett for 25.
ZA Nazir was dropped at midwicket whilst in single figures and did not give another chance. He proved to be the match winner for West Essex with a well crafted 69 not out.
He got good support from Khwaja who struck a hard-hit 38 before being run out by Epping skipper Geoff Maynard and brother ZIO Nazir who was also run out, this time by Dan Sibley for 21.
Youngster Riaz continued West Essex's positive approach however and struck 23 before being caught off Simon Oliver with the victory margin in sight.
Nazir made sure there was no further panic for the home side as he steered his side home with 5 overs to spare.
Epping skipper Maynard was philopsophical defeat."We did not play well today and our bowlers did not hit their straps for the first time this season but we still managed to pick up 10 points which is heartening."
