Match report
Essex League Division 2
Upminster 209 beat Epping 76 by 133 runs
Epping suffered their biggest defeat of the season so far at the hands of league leaders Upminster.
The visitors cruised to a 133-run win after bowling out Epping for a paltry 76 on a spinners paradise track.
The Upminster men owed their win largely to the efforts of one man - Arshad Ali who put in a stunning performance with bat and ball.
First he smashed 59 off 49 balls including two mighty sixes to get his side off to a flyer with the bat and then was the bowling wrecker taking a brilliant 6 for 27 with his fast off-spinners.
When Ali was second man out with the score on 76 Epping finally began to make inroads into the visitors batting.
There were solid perfomances from Rehman (34), Sarwar (14) and McNally (21) in the Upminster middle order but no one was able to dominate the Epping bowling like Ali had done.
The determined bowling of Dean Majeed (4 for 30) and Simon Oliver (3 for 43) brought the game back onto an even keel.
Some late order hitting from Wyatt (32) enabled Upminster to pass the 200 mark but Epping were delighted to bowl out the visitors after at one point facing a mammoth score. Upminster had been 128-2 after just 26 overs.
The Epping reply never got going as Ali removed Dan Sly for 11 and Mickey Taylor was snapped up by Brockman for 2.
Brockman (2 for 27) then bowled Simon Moore for 6 and Ali deceived Graham Hancock to leave Epping dead and buried on 20 for 4.
Epping skipper Geoff Maynard and Dean Majeed mounted some sort of rearguard action taking the score to 58 before Maynard was caught and bowled by Ali for 19 and Majeed was bowled for 22.
Epping's lower order then fell like a pack of cards as Ali continued his wrecking spree, taking his sixth wicket in bowling number 10 Tim Adams to win the match.
Epping captain Geoff Maynard said: "This is one to quickly forget for us. We came up against a very good cricketer in Arshad Ali and he won the game on his own its as simple as that."
