Epping Cricket Club Lost 4 wickets
Match report
Essex League Division 2
Epping 191 lost to Harlow 195-6 by 4 wickets
Harlow won the local spoils against Epping thanks to a man of the match performance from all-rounder Nicky Butler.
Spinner Butler turned the game on its head after Epping had cruised to 56 for 1 after being asked to bat first.
First he trapped Dave Sibley LBW for 4, then bowled Dave Westall first ball, had Dan Sly caught at short leg for 1 and bowled Dan Sibley for 4.
In a couple of overs of chaos Epping had been reduced to 62 for 5.
Opener Dean Majeed was then brilliantly caught at mid on by Nick Baxter after making a classy 44 to leave Epping dead and buried on 76 for 6.
Matt Barrett was then stumped for 7 to give Butler his 5th wicket and Epping were 101 for 7.
The only Epping resistance came from captain Geoff Maynard and Dave Bickley who took the fight to the Harlow attack.
The pair added 85 for the 8th wicket to give Epping's score a fair amount of respectability.
The introduction of seamer Shaban Munir ended the fightback however and prevented Epping from reaching 200 and maximum batting points.
He had Bickley caught at square leg for a battling 34, then Maynard was caught at deep mid wicket for a resolute 59 and Tim Adams holed out to mid on for 2.
Epping were all out for 191 with Munir taking 3 for 3 off just under 3 overs and star man Butler 5 for 45.
Harlow's reply did not start well with Jon Everett bowling Modwadia for 2, Dean Majeed having James Butler caught down the legside for 2 and Dave Bickley bowling Duncan Mackenzie for 19.
Harlow were rocking on 38 for 3 but Munir continued his fine game with a solid 22 in the middle order before he was trapped LBW by Bickley for 22.
Mark Green also batted positively before he was bowled by Simon Oliver for 33.
Dan Sibley then had Naidoo LBW for 13 and the game was very much in the balance with Harlow on 127 for 6.
But sensible batting from star turn Butler (43 not out) and Ian Nuttall (26 not out) saw Harlow home with nine overs to spare.
