Epping Cricket Club Won 5 wkts
Match report
Essex League Division 2
Old Parks 191 lost to Epping 193-5 by 5 wkts
Epping put in an excellent all-round performance to comprehensively beat Old Parks on their own turf.
The home side won the toss and decided to bat first and Epping were happy with that as batting early on was difficult.
Dean Majeed and Jon Everett found their line and length immediately and made it hard for the Old Parks openers.
Youngster Majeed struck twice, bowling Curtis for 12 and trapping Old Parks skipper Jamie Abbott LBW for 2.
Everett was his usual miserly self, sending down 9 overs for just 16 runs.
The Old Parks resistance came from opener Buxton but Graham Hancock had him caught behind for 30 just before the drinks break.
Phil Butchart also launched some lusty blows before Hancock trapped him LBW for 28 with a full toss.
Old Parks' best partnership was between Robbins (42) and Hughes (34) but the introduction of spinner Dan Sibley saw for them and the tail.
Sibley's vicious turners wreaked havoc and Old Parks were skittled out for a below par 191.
Sibley finished with brilliant figures of 4 for 19 off just under eight overs.
Epping's reply got the steady start it needed with Majeed and Hancock putting on 59 before the former was bowled trying to smash the ball out of the park for 26.
Hancock then followed an over later, caught and bowled for 27, to leave Epping precariously placed on 59 for 2.
Epping skipper Geoff Maynard and Simon Moore steadied the ship and took the score to 95 before Moore smashed a long hop to cover for 27.
Dan Sibley provided the impetus with a quickfire 26 before he was trapped LBW by the impressive Butchart.
Maynard carried on resolutely however and took his side to the brink of victory in making 50.
He was caught at mid wicket immediately after and the inevitable win was completed by Dan Sly, with an excellent cameo 21 not out, and Dave Bickley, 6 not out.
For Old Parks, Butchart was the bowling star sending down 17 overs and taking 3 for 52.
