Epping Cricket Club Lost 9 wkts
Match report
Essex League Division 2
Eppng 114 lost to Upminster 120-1 by 9 wkts
Epping's faint hopes of avoiding relegation were butchered by a rampant Upminster side.
The visitors departed Upminster Park with their tails between their leagues as the home side claimed the division two title with style.
Epping had battled hard in the face of some oppressive Upminster bowling with opener Graham Hancock and skipper Geoff Maynard (13) doing their best to blunt the attack.
Simon Oliver (23) also battled well to deny the home side and with Epping well placed on 105-2 there were hopes that a 200-plus score could be registered.
But young star John McNally's second spell proved to be decisive. The Worcestershire 2's paceman wreaked havoc in the Epping middle order after he removed Hancock for a determined 53.
Oliver followed clean bowled and Epping began to subside rapidly.
Dan Sibley was castled for a duck and Arshad Ali trapped Dan Sly LBW without scoring.
The carnage continued as McNally had Matt Everett LBW for another duck and Ali bowled Dave Bickley for yet another zero.
Tim Adams was caught and bowled by Ali for one and McNally had Simon Lycett caught behind for 2.
From a respectable 105-2 Epping lost their last eight wickets for just 9 runs.
Ali took 4 for 24 but McNally was the star with 5 for 28.
Epping needed to take early wickets,,especially that of dangerman Ali, but failed to do so.
Hancock did have Paul Brockman LBW for 9 with the total on 29, but that turned out to be Epping's only wicket success.
Ali proceeded to smite a flurry of sixes as he smashed his way to 88 not out and an easy win.
He was well supported by S Rahman on 22 not out.
