Match report Epping lost a thrilling Essex Sunday League match against Woodford Green at the weekend. Dan Sly and Richard Crone seemed to have given Epping a useful platform with a steady opening stand of 31 but a sudden clutch of wickets left the visitors reeling on 38-4. Dean Majeed and Dan Taylor steadied the ship for a while, and Dave Sibley and Dan Majeed made useful lower-order contributions, but we were all out for only 111 in the 33rd over.

Dean Majeed and Jon Everett quickly had the Green top-order under pressure as they began the run chase, but at 47-1, albeit after 18 of the allotted 40 overs, it seemed as if the home side had weathered the storm. Steady spells from Shahid Majeed (1-23) and Simon Oliver (3-25) turned the tide briefly Epping's way though and when the seventh wicket fell Woodford had only 69 on the board with just nine overs remaining. In a frantic finale however, and despite cool-headed spells from Dan Majeed and Dave Sibley, the hosts scrambled over the line with two wickets and seven balls to spare. Wicket-keeper Chris Masters made an unbeaten 41 for the home side to steer them to victory as Epping ultimately paid the price for a feeble batting effort.
