Match report Epping fell to a second successive Essex Sunday League defeat against Bardoli at the weekend. The visitors won the toss and, perhaps surprisingly, opted to take first use of wet and green wicket. Jon Everett (2-28) soon had Bardoli on the back foot but a crucial partnership of 57 between Fahim Zina (49) and Zameer Budi (23) wrested the initiative away from the hosts. Debutant Pat Haslam (4-33) enjoyed a purple patch though either side of a fifteen minute rain break, as the whole of the Bardoli middle-order departed for single figure scores, and when the ninth wicket fell with the score on 125 it seemed as if Epping might have completed a decisive turnaround. The last-wicket pair were allowed to add 19 cheap runs however, and Bardoli were eventually dismissed for a competitive 144 from 31 of the 40 allotted overs. Shahid Majeed bagged 2-11 as he helped mop up the tail.

Dave Sibley and Simon Lycett got the Epping run chase off to a steady start with a partnership of 28, and with Paul Offord and Pat Haslam also making useful middle-order contributions, we seemed at one point to be well in with a shout. A flurry of wickets saw us slip from 45-2 to 86-7 though with only 11 overs remaining, and despite a brave rebuilding effort from Simon Oliver and Shahid Majeed we were all out for 120 from 37.2 overs.

Bardoli bagged 18 points and Epping just 5.
