Epping Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Three Caps on Sun 03 Jul 2005 at 2.00
Epping Cricket Club Won 36 Runs
Match report
Epping secured their first Sunday League victory with a solid team performance against Three Caps. In a game where they were always on top, the winning margin could have been greater than the 36 runs that separated the sides.
Batting first on an overcast afternoon, openers Dan Sly and Dan Taylor gave Epping a brisk start before Taylor was dismissed for 7. Sly continued to plunder the opening bowlers with a series of boundaries before he was caught for a quick 32. With the run rate slowing, Dave Westall joined Jason Whiting at the crease, and the two batted sensibly and increasingly aggressively before Whiting was caught on the boundary for a good 41. Despite a quick succession of wickets, by the time Westall was out for 44, the foundations were laid for a high total. Enter Dan Sibley, who despatched the Three Caps attack to all parts of the ground in a rapid 50, before he was dismissed in the closing stages. Good support from the tail meant Epping posted an impressive 242-8 off their 40 overs.
The Three Caps reply began aggressively with both openers looking to score quick runs. Matt Barrett (1-45) ended the partnership, but it was the spin duo of Jason Whiting (1-29) and Dan Sibley (3-33) that ended any realistic chance of Three Caps challenging Epping’s total, tying down the batsmen while Sibley took 3 quick wickets. Wickets fell at regular intervals, Dave Sibley (2-25) and Matt Everett (2-35) taking two apiece, before a determined 9th wicket stand gave the Three Caps total respectability. Number 9 Parmar hit 42* as they closed on 206-9 off their 40 overs. Epping won convincingly by 36 runs and finally have a long overdue win this season.
