Epping Cricket Club Sunday Gentlemen's XI v Much Hadham on Sun 24 Apr 2005 at 2.00
Epping Cricket Club Won 71 Runs

Match report Much Hadham won the toss and elected to bowl. Epping Gents' openers Dan Sly and Paul Offord got off to a steady start with a high proportion of runs coming from byes as the MH keeper struggled to contend with some early season bowling and an early season popping wicket. Paul fell to a gloved catch as a result of both these factors trying to hook but Dan went on to master the bowling accompanied by Epping number 3 bat Dan Taylor. Scoring progress was modest as the wet outfield frustrated both the batsmen's best drives. Dan Sly scored a classy 37 and Dan Taylor will be very pleased with his 25 although was disappointed to
lose his concentration in stepping across to have himself plumb LBW when he was looking really good. The good start was consolidated by the subsequent batsmen, who although scoring slowly, batted doggedly in the poor batting conditions through till
tea for the loss of 9 wickets setting Much Hadham a total of 160 to beat.

Early successes by Epping bowlers Shahid Majeed and Ed Holden brought three early wickets and whilst Much Hadham middle order steadied the ship the early losses and good bowling and sharp fielding from the Gents put the task beyond them. They were reduced to 80 odd runs and their last pair held on valiantly for half a dozen overs trying for the draw in the gathering evening gloom before Jim Twitchett induced a mistake from their skipper Nigel who played on three balls from the end to give Epping the well earned victory.
