EPPING started their season with a sizzling performance in the sun at Hockerill.
The Lower Bury lane men fielded an inexperienced first XI side for their opening friendly fixture but the young guns fired to give the visitors an easy 8-wicket win.
The victory was set up by a good performance from the bowlers and some youthful enthusiasm in the field.
On a good batting wicket, Tim Adams bowled superbly to claim 4 for 7 off 7 overs and he was well supported by seasoned trundler Shahid Majeed (1 for 26).
Marc Webb, on a trip home from his New York posting, bowled 9 tight overs of spin for only 26 runs and young spinner Dan Taylor then kept up the good work, taking 2 for 30 as Hockerill began to try and post a decent score.
Only A Challis (50no), P Francis (31) and P Stone (30) managed to break the Epping shackles however and Hockerill's final 45-over total of 176-9 was at least 30 short of a decent score.
Epping sent out debutante Ben Holmes to open the innings and in combination with fellow opener Dan Sly, the pair began to attack the Hockerill attack.
Sly was first to an impressive fifty before falling for 58 with the score on 102.
But Holmes continued his remorseless attack and led his new side to victory with a brilliant, chanceless 93 not out.
Marc Webb had made 7 when he became the only other wicket to fall and young star Dan Twitchett finished on 6 not out as Epping won with 11 overs to spare.
