Epping Cricket Club Won 4 runs
Match report
Essex League Division 3
Epping 172 beat Buckhurst Hill 168 by 4 runs
EPPING beat local rivals Buckhurst Hill in a thrilling game, taking the spoils by just 4 runs in a tense finish.
The visitors were whipped by Hill in the first game of the season but the Lower Bury Lane men took full revenge showing that the early loss had been a big blot on their copybook.
Dave Bickley bowled number J Watts with the home side needing 5 runs to win with the last pair at the crease and just over 2 overs remaining to give Epping a dramatic victory.
Epping had bowled brlliantly to deservedly take the win after looking dead and buried for much of the Hill innings.
Openers Mo Mulla and Shaikh had taken the score to 69 with ease before an excellent Tim Adams bowled the latter.
Adams then removed J Allen for a duck and Hill were reduced to 104 for 3 when Slisz was caught behind off Shaba Masum for 15.
But with plenty of overs remaining and Hill well placed needing less than 70 to win it seemed a formality the home side would win.
But Epping's bowlers continued to probe away on a good batting track and refused to lie down and die.
Masum was excellent, taking 4 for 43 after Adams (2 for 25) broke down with a groin injury.
He was well supported by Epping's seasoned campaigner Bickley who took 3 for 42.
But the key wicket was claimed by 15-year-old leg spinner Dan Majeed who bowled intelligently to dangerman Mulla and eventually had him caught on the boundary for an excellent 64.
With Mulla out at 157 for 7, Hill faced scoring 16 to win with 3 wickets remaining and fell agonisingly short.
Earier in the day, Hill had bowled well to reduce Epping to 172 all out on a good batting track.
A number of Epping batsmen got themselves in then got themselves out - Dan Twitchett (14), Shuhy Chowdhury (20), Saifur (37) and Majeed (24).
The Hill stars with the ball were Mulla (4 for 47), Mughal (3 for 64) and Shaikh (3 for 35) who all bowled an excellent line and length.
