Match report
Essex League Division 3
Epping 209-9 dec lost to Old Brentwoods 210-5
EPPING lost out to Old Brentwoods in the last over at Lower Bury Lane.
Having set the visitors a tough but gettable 210 to win on an improving Epping track, the home side were confident they could register another win.
But Old Brents openers Laurie Bell and John Northwood batted superbly to blunt the Epping attack and register 108 for the first wicket.
Bell was eventually caught by Dan Twitchett at short cover for an excellent 66 but he and Northwood (48) had set the perfect tempo for their team, blunting Epping bowling stars Dave Bickley, Shaba Masum and Jon Everett.
The Epping bowlers toiled hard for wickets but on a track which got better and better throughout the game the Old Brents bats continued to play sensibly.
Bickley (2 for 41) was his usual accurate self and Masum (2 for 43) continued to strive for wickets.
The pair managed to contain the Old Brents middle order as the overs ticked down.
Sarwar batted steadily to make 37 but when Bickley trapped him LBW with 4 overs to go and 10 still needed, the game hung in the balance.
The match went down to the last over and with all the Epping fielders round the bat, Rogers (16no) hit the winning run.
Earlier in the day Epping had once again scored runs quickly.
Shuhan Chowdhury smacked a quickfire 51 and Dan Sibley returned to Saturday form with a fine 71.
Sibley and Dave Bickley (35 no) put on 81 for the 7th wicket to dig Epping out of a hole and register a decent score.
Epping declared on 209 after just 44 overs, leaving their opponents the best part of 50 overs to win the game.
