Epping Cricket Club Saturday 1st v Harold Wood on Sat 02 Sep 2006 at 12.30
Epping Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets
Match report
Essex League Division 3
Epping 126 lost to Harold Wood 127-5 by 5 wickets
HAROLD Wood continued their promotion charge with a hard-fought win at resurgent Epping.
The Lower Bury Lane made the visitors fight all the way for victory after once again being unlucky to lose a vital toss and be inserted on a damp track.
Epping's 126 was never likely to be enough on an improving wicket later in the day but the home side never gave up and made Wood dig deep to eek out the win.
Wood's pace attack was a real handful on the wet deck with Brabner (3 for 41), Hafeez (3 for 39) and Sharma (2 for 28) getting plenty of joy.
Only Shuhan Chowdhury (29) and Saifur (30) managed to break free of the shackles and launch any sort of assault.
Dave Bickley (27 not out) and Terry Preston (10) also battled well to give Epping some sort of score to defend.
Under rain threatening skies, the Wood batsmen started positively and quickly racked up 33 before their Indian overseas star Mangalapalls was trapped LBW by Dave Bickley for 10.
His opening colleague Sohail was then brilliantly caught by Tim Adams one-handed at mid on and Epping sensed they had a chance.
Adams then had Raza caught at cover and Sewell LBW first ball to leave Wood struggling on 82 for 4.
Dave Holingsworth, who was dropped twice and proved to be the match-winner with a resolute 52no, and Kevin Gibson (14no) saw Wood home however.
For Epping Bickley was again the star with 3 for 43 off 17 overs and Adams, returning after injury bowled excellently to take 2 for 30.
