Epping Cricket Club Sunday Gentlemen's XI v Uxbridge on Sun 25 Jun 2006 at 2.00
Epping Cricket Club Won
Match report
The Gents played host to Uxbridge on a hot and sunny day and came away with another winning draw.
The Gents batted first and sent out Batchelor and Sly, making his first appearance for the gents this season. Batchelor did not start well and was caught without scoring and Sly nicked a catch through the slips for four runs. Little did the Uxbridge players realise how costly that would be!! Sly went on to show his skill with a solid and classy knock of 134, with Hancock (17), Preston (11) and Beaumont (12) being the only other batsmen to make it to double figures. The gents declared their innings on 214 for 9.
After a lovely team with lots of creamy cakes and some gorgeous chocolate brownie cakes the Gents took to the field.
Beaumont and Davis opened the bowling for the Gents as usual with Davis clean bowling Hull in his first over. Beaumont was as reliable as ever picking up the wicket of Saudhu for 14 caught well by Thorpe. Preston replaced Davis and immediately found his line, way down legs side for most of the over. He eventually found the right line and had Mangat LBW for 30. King of Spin Max Tetlow replaced Beaumont and bowled tightly picking up the wicket of Tinsley caught by Preston. Preston also picked up 2 more wickets with one being a caught and bowled, well juggled, as Terry dropped it at first and managed to scoop it off the group with his finger nails. Sanger and Sly came on in an attempt to force a result in the game but and both picked up a wicket but were stopped in their tracks by the resolute Myers, the inevitable brick wall. Uxbridge clung on for the draw closing on 117 for 8.
Moment of the game was Terry Preston pleading with Sanger to go in the slips at the start of the second over. There he was placed and the rest of the team had to watch him drop the simplest of chances off of Tom Davis. Preston stated later” I don’t know why you put me in the slips!!! I never catch anything so I never field there!!!!’ Thanks for letting us know that Terry, Geoff hopes Fine leg at both ends will be ok for you this Saturday at Southend!!!!
