Woodford Green v Epping Cricket Club Saturday 1st on Sat 28 Jul 2007 at 1pm
Epping Cricket Club Won 24 runs
Match report
Epping 272 beat Woodford Green 248 by 24 runs
EPPING won a run-fest derby at rivals Woodford Green, emerging as victors in a tense finish by 24 runs.
With the placid Green track and short boundaries helping fast run-scoring, Epping were at one point struggling to defend their massive 272 first innings total.
But brilliant bowling from seamers Dave Bickley and Si Oliver and spinner Marc Webb saw Epping clinch the game with an over to spare, with Green all out for 248.
Their victory and resounding first innings total was thanks to a brilliant 101 from Dan Sibley.
Super Sibley smashed 14 fours and five sixes as he wreaked carnage after coming into bat with Epping in trouble on 3 for 2.
Smiting Sibley got good support from skipper Geoff Maynard as the pair posted a 137-stand for the fourth wicket.
Sibley eventually fell going for one big hit too many but his innings will be memorable to those who saw it for some time to come.
Maynard made 52 before he was bowled hitting out but Epping carried on the offensive.
Ed McElarney, returning to Epping after a spell in Australia, hit 14, Shahid Majeed smited 17 and Dave Bickley hit 30 not out.
Green's reply started terribly with both openers removed for ducks but Jacob Khushi, 18, and young star Rarza began the fightback.
Rarza was particularly pleasing to watch, posting 52 at the tender of age of 15 and playing his debut game.
But the top man with the bat for Green was P. Roy who had earlier also starred with the ball taking 5 for 56.
Roy was in as aggressive a mood as Sibley and hit the ball to all parts of the ground.
If he had stayed in Green stood a chance of an amazingly improbable victory but he was eventually caught by Dan Sly off the intelligent bowling of Si Oliver for 90.
The Green batsmen gamely continued the chase with Rowland, 18, Martin, 18 and Asghar, 31, all contributing.
But it was to be excellent bowling from Marc Webb with 3 for 57 and Dave Bickley 5 for 45 that ultimately swung a dramatic game Epping's way.
