Woodford Green v Epping Cricket Club Saturday 2nd on Sat 26 May 2007 at 1pm
Epping Cricket Club Won Woodford Green forfeitted the match
Match report
Epping 2ndX1 travelled the short journey to Woodford Green for this fixture and managed to win the toss and put the opposition in.
But after a series of dropped catches it looked like that this move was going to come back to bite us big time as Woodford Green reached 80 for the loss of one wicket.
However someone up there must have liked us because we rallied round and thanks to some astute bowling from Weerakoon and young Eddie Holden we dismissed the opposition for 165.
Old stager Tony Sanderson ( We didn't know you could run so fast ) belied is advancing years with a terrific catch in the deep mid-on area and captain Twitchett took three catches in the slips and one at square leg to give Epping a very obtainable total to chase.
After tea E.Holden and Sanderson started off our attempts to overhaul Woodford Greens total but with only 18 runs on the board Sanderson was given out LBW by umpire Offord which left him seething and cursing as he left the field,I am glad that Tony has given up on these bat throwing tantrums (ha-ha) because if he had threw the bat I don't think he would have had the strength to retrieve it.
Weerakoon followed Sanderson and he and Holden moved the score along to 42 before he was dismissed again by an LBW decision, but this time the decision was more clear cut.
Older brother Billy now joined Eddie and the score gradually moved along despite losing over 30 mins of play due to rain.
When 20 overs was called at 18-00hrs we were left with 99 to get with 8 wickets standing, the score was on 104 when Billy was clean bowled.
Twitchett was the next man in and he and young Holden moved the score along to 116 for 3 when due to a light continuous drizzle the opposition captain asked the umpires if they could come off. The umpires then asked the batsmen who given the state of the game were keen to carry on, but by this time several of the opposition had left the field and after some discussions, some of which were rather heated the Woodford Green captain forfietted the game by refusing to continue, which was a sad end to an otherwise enjoyable game.
