Match report Once again Epping lost the toss and were put into bat on a seemingly good batting track.
Tony Sanderson was an early casualty as he went for 0, E. Holden and Dan Sly (promoted to the second team for the day) steadied the ship but Sly was unlucky when he edged a ball onto his stumps after scoring 13. Weerakoon went for 0 after edging a rising delivery to the keeper. Billy Holden and Twitchett did manage to put some runs on the board with 23 and 20 respectively but with Billy in suicide mode (he kept advancing down the wicket trying to put their spinner over mid-wicket) it was only a question of time before he was stumped.
Twitchett soon followed, caught, the tail tried in vain to rally a decent total but the innings finished on 104 with John Brades (relegated from the thirds ) the last man out for 11.
After tea Epping set about the task of trying to gain some points from the match with B. Holden and Preston opening the bowling.
Some fireworks followed with Holden ripping out the stumps of the two opening batsmen and Preston with the help of a fine catch in the slips from Moore reducing the opposition to 18 for 3 we thought we could see some light at the end of the tunnel, however this was quickly put out as Old Southendians steadied the ship and reached the total required with the loss of only one more wicket. So our long journey to Southend and back resulted in just one point.
