Match report A contest that was dominated by big hitting from both teams' opening batsmen, but with Epping coming out on top.
Batting first, West Essex compiled 222 runs with their innings being built around the big hitting of I Riaz, their opener, who nearly carried his bat as wickets fell around him. He fell as the eighth wicket of West Essex' innings having made 139 runs. The innings opened with aggressive bowling from Dean Majeed who took 2 wickets for Epping in successive balls in the 3rd over of the match, which must have left West Essex with a feeling of imminent collapse. However good support to Riaz meant that the runs kept coming. The pick of the Epping bowlers was Dean Majeed with 5 wickets for 27.
In response, Epping's innings commenced with Jason Whiting in brutal hitting form. With good support from Dean Majeed (39) and after hitting 8 straight 6's and 13 4's, Whiting was finally run out having made 137 runs and effectively won the game for the Lower Bury Lane men.
