Old Parks v Epping Cricket Club Saturday 2nd on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at 1pm

Match report
Epping arrived to find the usual absolute batsmans paradise over at Oakfields. Lead by Captain Bendy with many of his regualr charges away or promoted to the 1st XI there were new faces among the XI. Epping fielded first and tried hard to restrain the Old Parks scoring, the combination of a perfect batting wicket, a talanted opening pair and lightning outfield all made for difficult bowling conditons. A. Khan found the boundary with ease making full use of the conditions. Epping toiled hard in the field, only managing to grab two wickets before Old Parks declared on an impressive 295/ 2.
After tea Bendy sent out Lycett and Preston for the second time this season. This provided a steady start for the innings seeing off the bulk of the openers spells and setting a solid platform for the rest of the order to make use of the conditions. Preston was robust offering little chance to the bowlers before popping one up to square leg on a rare ball that did more than expected, Lycett at the other end looked more than comfortable, eventually going on to compile an impressive 86. Epping made the Old Parks fielders toil as they had been made to. The innings ebbed and flowed with Epping losing 2 key middle order batsmen for disappointing scores. However as the ever reliable old hands of Captain Bendy and Lieutenant Offord steadied the ship and added valuable runs, and for a while Old Parks looked nervous as the runs were piled on at a rate of knots and a brief glimpse of victory visible from under Offord's cap. However, their key wickets fell eventually and a nervous end was in sight for Epping. With James Matthews coming and going in his cavalier approach and the the evergreen Sanger being triggered it was down to debutant and residnet number 11 Fleming (batting at 10) to hang on for the draw. After a tense final few overs Epping managed to survive and hang on for the draw.
