Scorecard
Southend v Epping Cricket Club Saturday Third XI on Sat 08 Aug 2009 at 1pm
Epping Cricket Club Won By 7 Wickets
Match report
Epping Vs Southend, bottom Vs second from bottom CRUNCH GAME. Epping won the toss and elected to bowl first thinking they had a good shout at bowling southend out cheaply. With Beavers and Preston G getting off to a great start Epping controlled the early stages with Southend unaable to score. The start was made better by a great swinging delivery by Preston taking the wicket of Kilroy and then Kane who played on. Epping at 40-2 off 12 overs were cruising.
However bad bowling and destructive batting by Shepherd and Laflin suddenly swung the game with both bats scoring freely; though Barton was being destroyed he picked up the crucial wicket of Shepherd with a good catch from Beavers. However this wicket did not stop the runs with Laflin slogging every which way punching well above his weight. In step Tredgett wanting to impress managed to bowl good lines and eventuly get Laflin out with a great catch from Paul 'the musician' Offord. With Southend reaching 200 off 40 overs ed 'the weller look a like' piler was itching to bowl though no such oppotunity arose, and Southend declared on a huge 229 for 4.
With the fear of relogation all to appearent Sanderson and John 'the sang' sanger trotted deligently to the crease. The fist few overs passed away with the score creeping along at 3 an over before Sanger rather cautiously edges one to second slip. Pete Farrar attempts to regain some control but mistimes a ball to square leg. In to the crease comes Will Beavers who is used to these pressure moments at the top of the order. Sanderson and Beavers begin to build a partnership with both players playing a controlled innings. The runs start to be found more easily with Sanderson and Beavers both reaching there half centuries. However Sanderson is run out in ridiculous fashion with the ball coming off the bowler on to the wicket. This however brought Tredgett to the crease who destroyed the bowling helping Epping to a great victory, with Beavers finishing on 74 and Tredgett on 40.
