Epping Cricket Club Lost By 34 Runs

Match report Epping slumped to a second consecutive Twenty20 loss in a week, this time against an Ongar side boasting most of their 1st XI.

Epping bowled and fielded well, but a crucial dropped catch by Lycett allowed Ongar opener Abbott to hit 35 while early wickets fell around him. The run rate always ticked along nicely, despite good spells from Tredgett (3-28) and Graham Preston. Ongar closed on a healthy 145-8, with Ben Sly (3-31) bowling well at the death.

Epping's reply got off to a good start, Sly (20) and Twitchett (12) putting on a breezy 37 for the first wicket. But after both fell in quick succession, Epping struggled to maintain the run rate. The turning point came when danger man Tredgett was controversially run out at the non-striker's end when the wicket had been broken and a stump was required to be taken out of the ground. Sensing quick runs were required, the Epping middle order tried to hit out, but only succeeding in collapsing from 64-2 to 90-9. Lycett (16) and Williams took Epping to respectability but ultimately fell way short.

Graham Preston did a great job on the BBQ front though!
