Epping Cricket Club Saturday 2nd v Old Brentwoods on Sat 26 May 2012 at 1pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Having battled valiantly to save the game last week the Epping 2nd XI started the game in good spirits looking to build on a solid opening weekend to the season. On a belting day at HQ Epping fielded first and the game could not have been more different to the serene start seen the previous week with the scoreboard ticking over at quite a rate with the wickets column going at a similar rate leaving the visitors 40-3 off of the first 11 overs. However, from this point the visitors took control of the innings putting on a huge stand to put them in command and looking to build a massive total. With the heat taking its toll on the Epping fielders it was up to leg spin sensation Ian Simpson to step up and remove the two batsmen inflicting severe pain on the Epping team with as plumb an LBW as you'll ever see and also a great catch from Tapan to try to arrest the score. But with the bit between their teeth Old Brents continued their assault on a good total and with some clever batting they managed to steer their way to a very strong total of 232-6 off of just 42 overs.

After teas made by the captain and his good wife the Epping batsman emerged refreshed and perhaps with too much energy with hyperglycemic shots from Nathan and Salim and after a sugar rush of an innings from Charlie Barton who took the attack to the visiting bowlers before being caught out by an excellent catch for the second week running, it was down to the comatose batting of opener G. Preston to combine with the steady hand of Captain Bawa. G. Preston's father noting that after grinding out 75 minutes at the crease, his son had only amassed 2 runs, although as Graham would respond 'you can't score runs back in the pavillion' although in his case it proved equally difficult to get the scoreboard moving from the middle! However, this stand took the wind out of the visitors sails and put Epping on a steadier footing, which enabled the following batsmen to play with some freedom and focus more on getting the scoreboad doing, while under the watchful eye of Manni as Tapan and Paresh played dashing yet measured innings to push Epping towards their first batting bonus point, but both ultimately fell victim to the OB's bowling attack while Manni, as ever, stood firm to the end enabling Epping for the second week running to secure a draw having been in a slightly precarious position during their time at the crease. However, such determination and time in the middle can only benefit the 2nd XI as they march forward in the season having proven themselves to be a determined opposition!
