Stanford Le Hope v Epping Cricket Club Saturday 2nd on Sat 31 May 2008 at 1pm
Epping Cricket Club Won Epping won by 78 runs
Match report
After a week of rain Epping made the trip to Stanford where they proceeded to lose the toss and were put into bat.
Surprisingly the Stanford track didn't play too badly and Sly and Merrit got us off to a slow but steady start before Merritt skyed a ball and was caught for 23.
Young Eddie Holden from Leytonstone was the next man in and managed a steady 17 before he was stumped. Dan Taylor up on a day trip from Southampton came in and went very quickly but not before he managed to score 11 from one over. A steady 16 from young Twitchett came to an end when he was caught behind and he was soon followed by Offord who must have been let out from the local hospital where he was on suicide watch as he gave the keeper a chance of a stumping on his first ball and because the keeper didn't manage to remove the bails the first time Paul gave him another chance the next ball and he was on his way back to the pavillion. The lower order did rally round and we finally finished on 169 for 8, which on that wicket I thought would be a competetive total.
After tea Holden B and Preston set about the task of trying to get us some wickets, with some very tight bowling from the pair of them runs were hard to come by.
Graham (8overs 3m 16-1)had the first success with the aid of a fine catch from Offord at square leg, Paul's catch set the standard for some great catches during the innings.
Lycett replaced Preston and his spell resulted in 8 overs 4m 11-3, Billy Holden bowled well with no rewards yet it was another tight spell with figures of 11overs 4m 27-0.
Spin king Eddie was brought on to replace his brother and got us another couple of wickets, but the man of the day was S. Oliver who in his spell of 3 overs which included one maiden managed to get 4 wickets for 4 runs. Yet this amazing feat was surpassed when fielding at mid-off a skyed drive off one of the Stanford batsmen seemed out of his reach when he started off but he somehow managed to catch the ball one handed to the amazement of everyone including the batsman who just stood and stared. So in the end we bowled Stanford out for 91 and the journey home was all the better with 20 points in the bag.
